What this covers

This policy covers two things: joinsplitwiser.com, the marketing website you are reading now, and the Splitwiser web app at app.joinsplitwiser.com, where accounts, expenses, and balances are actually managed. The two run as separate applications, described separately below.

The marketing website (joinsplitwiser.com)

This site does not require an account and does not store anything you type into it on a server. Specifically:

• The free calculators (tip, split bill, rent split, trip expense, prorated rent, gas split) save your entries in your browser's local storage only, so you do not have to retype them if you come back. That data never leaves your device, is never sent to us or anyone else, and clears automatically after 24 hours. Clearing your browser data removes it immediately.
• Analytics. We use Mixpanel to understand which pages get used and whether the "Sign up" and "Log in" buttons get clicked, recording the page path and which button was used. This does not use cookies; Mixpanel stores its data in your browser's local storage, the same as the calculators do. We do not collect your name, email, or IP address through this site's analytics.
• Contact. If you email hello@joinsplitwiser.com, we receive whatever you send in that email, the same as any email.

No advertising trackers, no third-party cookies, and no data sold to anyone, on this site.

The Splitwiser app (app.joinsplitwiser.com)

Using the app requires an account. To provide the service, we store what is necessary to run it: your account details (name and email), the groups you are part of, and the expenses, amounts, and balances you and your group enter. This data exists to calculate who owes what and is visible to the other members of a group you share expenses with, since that is the point of the app.

We do not sell this data. We do not use it for advertising. It is used to run the service you signed up for and, in aggregate and de-identified form, to understand how the product is used so we can improve it.

How long we keep data

Calculator entries on the marketing site: 24 hours, in your browser only, as described above. Account and expense data in the app: for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, email hello@joinsplitwiser.com to request that your data be deleted as well, and we will confirm once it has been.

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@joinsplitwiser.com. We will respond directly rather than through an automated process, since the team is small enough that a human reads every request.

Children

Splitwiser is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email hello@joinsplitwiser.com and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects how your data is handled, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change, and significant changes will be noted here directly rather than silently.
