How trip expense splitting works
On a group trip, expenses rarely get paid evenly: one person books the Airbnb, another covers dinner, someone else grabs the cab. This calculator tracks who paid for what and who each expense should be split among, then works out each person's net balance: what they paid minus their fair share of everything.
Instead of everyone paying everyone back individually, the settlement plan above uses debt simplification to find the smallest number of payments that settles every balance, so instead of five awkward transfers, you might only need one or two.
