1. Agreement to these terms

These terms govern your use of the Splitwiser website at joinsplitwiser.com and the Splitwiser app at app.joinsplitwiser.com, together "Splitwiser." By creating an account or using either, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Splitwiser.

2. What Splitwiser is

Splitwiser is a tool for tracking and splitting shared expenses, rent, trips, household bills, between roommates, friends, couples, and other groups. The marketing site also offers free calculators (tip, split bill, rent split, trip expense, prorated rent, gas split) that work without an account. Splitwiser is currently free during a public beta. We may introduce paid plans in the future; if we do, existing free functionality will not be taken away and replaced with a paywall without clear notice first.

3. Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is older, to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of the expense data, group names, and any other information you enter into Splitwiser. You give us the license we need to store, process, and display that information back to you and to the other members of any group you share it with, since that is the entire function of the app. We do not sell your content or use it for advertising.

Splitwiser calculates shares and balances based on the numbers you enter. We are not responsible for verifying that the amounts, names, or arrangements you enter are accurate, legal, or agreed to by everyone involved; that is between you and the people you are splitting costs with.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Splitwiser for anything illegal, fraudulent, or intended to harm someone else
• Try to access another user's account or another group's data without permission
• Reverse engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract the underlying software or its data at scale
• Disrupt or overload the service, or attempt to bypass any of its usage limits

We can suspend or terminate an account that violates this section.

6. No warranty

Splitwiser is provided during a public beta, "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. It is a calculation and tracking tool, not financial, legal, or tax advice.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Splitwiser is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including disputes between members of a group over shared expenses. Our total liability for any claim relating to Splitwiser is limited to the amount, if any, you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for the current free beta is zero.

8. Changes to the service or these terms

We may update Splitwiser, including these terms, as the product develops. If a change is material, we will update the "last updated" date above and, where practical, let you know directly. Continuing to use Splitwiser after a change means you accept the updated terms.

9. Ending your account

You can stop using Splitwiser at any time. To close your account and request deletion of your data, email hello@joinsplitwiser.com. We can suspend or close an account that violates section 5.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [PLACEHOLDER: governing jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict of law principles.
